Chocolate Date-Nut Cake

Ingredients

• 1 cup Dates, Chopped
• 1½ cups Boiling Water
• 1 teaspoon Baking Soda
• ½ cup Shortening
• 1 cup Sugar
• 2 Eggs, Well Beaten
• 1¼ cups Flour
• ¼ teaspoon Salt
• ¾ teaspoons Baking Soda
• 1 package Chocolate Chips
• ½ cup Walnuts
• ½ cup Sugar

Method

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

Pour boiling water over dates and 1 tsp soda. Cool.

Cream shortening and sugar; add eggs. Add date mixture. Sift flour, soda and salt together. Combine with creamed mixture. Mix well. Pour in prepared 9 x 13 pan.

Topping

1 package chocolate chips ½ cup nuts (walnuts) ½ cup sugar

Mix together and sprinkle over top of cake. Bake at 350°F for 45 minutes.
